Robert Gallery has become a good football player

From the Mercury News.com on the emergence of former number 2 pick overall, Robert Gallery.
It wasn’t until Cable arrived in 2007 that Gallery harnessed his talent and settled into a comfort zone.
Cable, then the offensive-line coach, moved Gallery to left guard, pointed out the things Gallery does best and turned him loose.
OK, so teams don’t [...]

Al Davis has not paid coaches before

We know that Al Davis is going to attempt to get by without paying the fired Lane Kiffin.  And we know that Kiffin has not filed a grievance yet but likely will.  We also know that Al Davis still owes Mike Shanahan $250,000 from when he was fired.  But did you know this…
According to Larry [...]

What Kiffin did well

According the Pat Kirwan of NLF.com, Lane Kiffin did several things well that deserve a hat tip.  They include…

They were becoming a very effective team at running the ball.  6th in the NFL last year and 5th this year.

What the Raiders really need

Ray Rotto of the San Francisco Chronical makes a thought provoking point on the mess that is the Oakland Raiders.  He says that the real problem is not coaching, but that there is no football executive running things.  Check out this quote.

“It’s like I’ve said many times, every day was a fight inside that building to do what we did,” said Gannon, now a TV commentator. “We had to overcome adversity in the building and then get on a plane to go try to beat Denver.
“When I played in [...]

Why hasn’t Lane Kiffin been fired yet?

No one knows for sure, but John Ryan of the Mercury News has a few ideas.  The ideas are presented tongue and cheek, but I think the second one may in fact be the truth.
Al’s going to wait until the first day that nobody is reporting Kiffin will be fired. Then he can be right [...]

Does he want to “just win baby” or just be the feared boss?  Check out what Michael Silver has to say….
As Al Davis prepares to fire another coach – today, at halftime of the Oakland Raiders’ game Sunday against the Bills, or whenever his lawyers tell him he’s suitably positioned to try to withhold the [...]

Afternoon Linkage for 9-18-08

Don Banks of SI.com says there is a 99.9% chance Lane Kiffin loses his job in Oakland.  (Kind of reminds me of the scene in dumb and dumber were Jim Carey says, “So you’re telling me I got a chance!) I say he does not make it out of September.  Banks also lists 9 [...]
