Er..ah…this does not seem to fly.

When asked about his decision to punt on 4th-and-13 late in Sunday’s game, Childress said, “Based on the way we were playing defense, I thought we’d have a chance to get it back.”

Well, there are multiple things wrong with this statement, namely the fact that A.) the defense wasn’t exactly causing the Titans to run for their lives, and B.) the Vikings had zero timeouts left, meaning all Tennessee had to do was kneel down a few times and end the game.

I pulled Childress aside after the press conference and asked him to elaborate on his decision, and he said he didn’t like his team’s chances at 4th-and-13. He thought it would be better to back the Titans up with a punt, and he also brought up the Miracle in the Meadowlands as a reference for hope. Plus, Childress also reiterated his thought that the defense had a chance to get the ball back.

I disagree with Childress’ reasoning, because in reality, there was no chance for the Vikings to get the ball back unless the Titans’ victory formation team melted down.

Even then, the Vikings still needed two scores.

At 30-17, the game was likely over either way. But one more shot down the field would have made sense to me. (Source, HT)

If the buzz is to be believed, the Tavaris Jackson era is over. From the Saint Paul Pioneer Press…

The most viable starting quarterback for the Vikings to pursue after the season would seem to be Matt Cassel, who is filling in for injured Tom Brady with the New England Patriots.

Cassel, 26, can become an unrestricted free agent at season’s end. So can the Arizona Cardinals’ Kurt Warner, 37. The Vikings could try to trade with the Cleveland Browns for Brady Quinn, 23, but he’s unproven.

Regarding Tampa Bay’s Jeff Garcia, 38, the Vikings have not been impressed.

Seems like just guesses to me.

From the AP and the “no-duh” department….
Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson did not practice on Thursday because of an injured hamstring.
Coach Brad Childress calls the injury “a concern” because Peterson was able to do limited work in practice on Wednesday, but was too sore to go a day later.
